Ανακοινώθηκαν οι υποψηφιότητες των Οσκαρ 2016, όπου για την 88η τελετή ηγείται η ταινία The Revenant (Η Επιστροφή) του Αλεχάντρο Ινιαρίτου που συγκεντρώνει συνολικά 12 υποψηφιότητες, τις περισσότερες από κάθε άλλη ταινία.
Ακολουθεί η ταινία Mad Max: Ο Δρόμος της Οργής με 10 υποψηφιότητες. Οκτώ υποψηφιότητες έλαβαν Οι Μισητοί Οκτώ του Ταραντίνο. Ακολουθούν η ταινία Martian του Ρίντλεϊ Σκοτ με 7, το Spotlight, Bridge of Spies και Carol με 6, ενώ 5 υποψηφιότητες συγκεντρώνουν τα: The Big Short και το νέο Star Wars.
Την ανακοίνωση των υποψηφιοτήτων έκαναν οι σκηνοθέτες Ανγκ Λι και Γκιγιέρμο ντελ Τόρο από την έδρα της Ακαδημίας Τεχνών και Επιστήμης του Κινηματογράφου, η οποία απονέμει τα βραβεία αυτά.
